I've
just been selected for jury service
and I'm very excited! Mind you, I've
been warned that it can be tedious,
frustrating and often boring - but I
can't say that's put me off! My
prayer though is that God gives me
his supernatural wisdom, as
personally, when it comes down to it
I struggle with Cluedo (and, well,
pretty much any crime drama, except
'Murder She Wrote' because it's only
ever the shifty- looking one that
did it!)
What I've got in
spades however, is a strong desire
for justice. I want the right thing
to be done - the right sentence, the
right outcome. People's lives are
hanging in the balance (of justice)
every day in the courts and it is a
privilege to play a small part in
the process. As a small child I was
named 'eagle eyes' by my mum -
she noticed how nothing escaped me -
usually when it came to pouring
the juice, sharing out the sweets,
pocket money etc! In later life
though, this has been channelled
more appropriately, for example,
into causes like Fair-trade,
eco-living and social justice
issues.
I don’t mean to puff
myself up, but clearly people hold
differing values or else there would
be no need for Fair-trade logos and
so on! But when I go to court, I
will remember that although being a
juror will only be a small part in
my life, it is a pivotal day for
the people on both sides of the
room. So, to risk harping on the
same theme that I often do, may I
encourage everyone to keep being a
good steward of the small things,
love your neighbour as yourself and
we will change the world!
