While visiting our local hospital I met a patient who said she didn’t want to go home, even if she was well enough, as she had no friends or family. “There’s no one to care whether I live or die,” she told me. I assured her that as a Christian I cared. The lady in the next bed said she cared. I said I believed God also cared for her and loved her. I don’t know whether I ‘d helped her but it certainly made me think. How many other people feel this way? Isolated and lonely even though they live in a community. The Bible tells us to love our neighbours and if each one of us took this to heart and acted upon it, what a different world it would be. Who is my neighbour? The person living next door or across the road? The lonely person in hospital? Yes, all of these and so many more in need of a friendly greeting or a helping hand.

So how about it. How’s your neighbour today? Let us all pledge to be good neighbours to those in need.
