February 17

I am waiting for a mattress to be delivered so I can’t go out.  I am on the phone to the company to see if they can give me a time. Although my call is important to them, I have been on speakerphone now for 18 minutes.  It’s a bit frustrating because I can’t get on with things that I want to do.

Having to wait for the phone to be answered and a delivery to be made might teach me a small lesson in patience.

The word ‘patience’ comes from the Latin word that means ‘suffer’ or ‘endure’. I can’t honestly say that I am suffering sitting here waiting. At least I am in the warm, I can go and make a cup of tea, and despite the non- delivery of the mattress, I know that I have a place to sleep tonight. Not everyone can say that. There are those who do suffer in so many ways and have no choice but to be patient. As well as patience I must also be thankful for the many good things that I have. I dare say that there are many who could say the same.
