A question we all ask at times I’m sure, is ‘why do bad things happen?’  Even though we can give a rational well balanced answer the majority of the time, when we are faced with difficultly, when heartache shows up at our door, we’re often left feeling that we don’t have an answer.

Life throws all sorts of difficulties and struggles our way, when we’re in the midst of them it feels at times there’s no escape; trapped in despair, grief, anguish or hopelessness.  When people look at a situation of suffering they can often say ‘Where is God?’  It can seem like God’s not there, like He has disappeared, but I really believe that God is actually to be found in the heart of the suffering situation.  It’s in these times that God holds us close, and carries us through.  The famous Psalm 23 says   ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.’  When I’m walking through the valley, I can’t always feel God, I can’t always see God, but I am confident that He is there.

People often state that God is a crutch for the weak too lean on.  I actually believe it is the strong who depend on God.  It takes someone of strength, and great courage to go through pain and hold onto a faith in a God who has all things in control.  If you’ve ever asked the question ‘Where is God?’, I want to encourage you and say right there, he is right there, reach out, have faith, don’t give up.
