The value of an item is determined by What someone is willing to pay

Programmes about antiques are plentiful on our screens at the

moment. Many people have a fascination with collectibles from the past and

present. People it seems will collect anything.

The antiques trade is a peculiar trade when you think about it.

It’s the only place where small decorated eggs can fetch seven figure sums

if they carry the name Faberge. Works of art can fetch figures high enough

to run a small country. Many antiques and collectible items are bought and

sold via an auction, where the value of the item is determined simply by

what someone is willing to pay. And that’s the principle in antiques; an

article is only worth what someone will pay for it.

That being the case, I think it is a good illustration of how

precious the human race is to God. If the value of something is determined

by what another is willing to pay, then God values the human race very

highly. We are a couple of weeks past Easter now, but that festival is a

recognition of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the Easter

story Christians remember the fact that God gave his own Son for the human

Race.

God Loved the world and wanted us to have fellowship with him so much.

God wanted to offer forgiveness to the world. God valued us so much that the

price paid was the death of his own son, Jesus Christ. You may think you are

of little value. Others may put you down and say you aren’t worth much. But

the message of Easter is don’t believe it. God values you at the life of his

own son. Nothing is more costly or valuable than that.
